Bishop Solomon Smith

Bishop Solomon Smith responded to God’s call to preach the gospel in May of 1961, under the leadership of the late Reverend W.D. Kilgore of Mount Sinai Baptist Church in North Chicago, Illinois. After only two years of faithfully serving the Lord and his pastor, he was ordained and elected as the Assistant Pastor of Mount Sinai. In September of 1970, he became Senior Pastor of Mount Sinai Baptist Church and the membership rapidly grew from about 350 members to over 700. The church grew to the point of needing an addition on the existing edifice to accommodate the members during worship. However, most notable was the deep spiritual growth that took place during this time. Bishop Smith faithfully loved his flock and served at Mount Sinai for 21 years. While pastoring at Mount Sinai, Bishop Smith completed 18 years of diverse spiritual training and education through the Baptist Congress of Christian Education, the American Baptist Seminary, and historic Moody Bible Institute.

On July 9, 1991, Bishop Smith, under the leading of the Holy Spirit, founded Mount Moriah Christian Center, a non-domination full gospel church.  Over the past years, the church and its surrounding properties have been renovated and now ministers to the community through its food pantry, cable broadcasts and anointed teaching of the Word of God.

As a spiritual pioneer, Bishop Smith has been used by the Spirit of God to bring powerful biblical teaching to the Lake County area of the infilling of the Holy Spirit.  Bishop Smith was also instrumental in pioneering women in ministry by supporting women in the ministry and giving them the opportunity to preach the gospel.  Many anointed godly women have been licensed by Bishop Smith to preach the gospel across America and Africa.  Due to his unparalleled prayer life and sensitivity to the Spirit of God, Bishop Smith has been able to mentor over sixty men and women in ministry. In 2014, Bishop Smith became the Dean of MMCC School of Ministry, which offers a two and four year training program for those desirous of fulfilling the call of God on their life.

On October 20, 2000, Bishop Van Gayton of International Community of Christian Churches ordained Pastor Solomon Smith to the office of Bishop. Two Honorary Doctorate Degrees of Divinity have been conferred upon Bishop Smith:  Grace Theological Seminary (2006) and Hope Bible Institute in 2009.

Bishop Smith has a heart for the family and to see those who are bound with addiction gain freedom through the power of God. Bishop Smith’s passion is for the lost and those that have been broken, hurt and abused. His fathering nature has been an umbrella for those who have been abandoned and left fatherless. Bishop Smith’s vision is to equip the people of God to live an abundant lifestyle of worship which in turn will impact the community and world.

Bishop Smith was married to the late Ernestine D. Smith. To this union they have five devoted children: Kenneth, Pamela, Tamar, Adria, Jonathan and 19 grandchildren. As a child, Terri Waiters, a daughter of the heart and spirit, joined the Smith Family.  Bishop is currently married to First Lady Minister Arlene Smith.  Bishop Smith’s legacy of prayer, faith, holiness, perseverance and integrity is evident in his children and grandchildren which have joined him in ministering the gospel.
